Financing the energy transition: The role of public funding, collaboration and private equity
Dans : Rubino, A., Sapio, A., and La Scala, M. Eds, 2021, Handbook of Energy Economics and Policy, Amsterdam: Elsevier, pp. 521-547
Résumé
The energy transition is a complex process in which the financing of new energy technologies plays its role. The financing process has often been portrayed as a relay race of government and investment intervention, inspired by the innovative nature of renewable energy and the competitive nature of a commercial environment. As set out in this chapter, part of the financial puzzle to fund the energy transition is not to find the gap between government intervention and investment intervention (the valley of death) but to find the overlap between them. We have referred to this overlap as the ‘collaborative interventions space’. Although financing the energy transition is but one ‘chapter’ in a much more elaborate and complex process, it seems that the success of the transition cannot do without studying collaborative financing in detail.
